THERE IS NO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO NOT BE OFFENDED!!

[Hi there!]

Harding's Hangout

(AKA Mainéar Anoird!)

Welcome to our humble abode on the Web!!

Well, I have been putting more content in here, as you can see: an even more recent picture of me, my current resumé, and some news about our family doins:

News:

10/20/07 And then there were three: William Eugene Harding: b August 21, 1950 Decatur, Il. d October 20, 2007 Reno, NV from cardiac arrest due to a systemic infection that was too far gone when he was brought to the emergancy room at the VA Hospital in Reno. His passing was painless and peaceful. His wish upon his death was to be cremated and have his ashes scattered at sea. He was a retired career navel officer. My sister Becky and her husband John are making the arrangements with the help of his good friends Phil and Yvonne Silver.

04/01/06 I've got a MySpace account!

03/01/06 As of March 1st we are moved into our new home at 363 Clarke Ave. Livermore, CA 94551-5912, and have begun the process of making it our own. A friend that has recently gotten his General Contractor's license is fixing up the bathrooms, which were discovered to have some dry rot in the sub-flooring, requiring completely gutting and remodling. I've also been busy rewiring the garage so as to support my hobbies. I plan on installing a stationary tub, a work surface and some cabinets in the area over by the washer and dryer so that I will have a place to make beer.

01/20/06 The Drake and Kennedy houses both ended up being bid out from under us. However, while looking at some other properties, we happened to find this house at 363 Clarke Avenue, and put in a bid on it. We found out this morning that the seller had accepted the bid, so now all that's left is the usual mountain of paperwork! So, sometime in the near future, maybe by the end of February, our address will be:
363 Clarke Ave.
Livermore, CA 94551
everything else (phone, email, etc) will remain the same.
here are some more pictures.

01/13/06 We have found two houses that fit our requirements – one is on Kennedy Street and the other is on Drake Way
We are having our agent write offers on both of them, and will see what happens. The one on Drake has a great Living room that would be perfect for Katie's music studio, and is move-in ready. The one on Kennedy is really nice, but is currently occupied so we would have to wait for the current owners to vacate.

01/06/06 We may be buying a house!! We have been talking with the same realtor that got André and Melinda into their house, and they have a program called the Monthly Mortgage Assistance Program that helps first time buyers get into a house of their own, and requires only $2000.00 for closing costs and provides either a $500.00 per per month for 24 months, or $1000.00 per month for 12 months, mortgage assistance payment. Stay tuned!

12/25/05 We had a real scare - Katie was diagnosed with uterine cancer. In a really strange coincidence, she found out right after her dad, who had been going through chemotherapy for prostate cancer, completed the treatment with his PSA down to an acceptable level. She had a successful hystorectomy at Kaiser in Sacramento, but developed an abcess that caused her to run a fever of up to 105°. She ended up staying in the hospital a total of eight days, and finally came home after being on very heavy duty antibiotics. She had a PIC line installed (I have no idea what that stands for :) that connected a small pump and IV bag of antibiotics to her. She's finally on the mend, thanks to all the prayers from family and friends for her to get well. We'd especially like to thank the Knight's Ladies of Fr. Patrick Power Council 4588 for bringing over hot meals while she was recuperating.

05/23/05 We got another car: a 2004 Ford Focus SE: Here's a link to the website for the Focus. Our Mercury Tracer was showing it's age and with summer coming up, we wanted a car with working A/C

06/03/04 We have a new addition to our family: Dbl K Ebon Argent Corsair

05/11/04 We've moved into our new place, the address is:
1883 Fifth Street
Livermore, CA 94550

Here is a map

03/27/04 Well, the owner of the Sugar Pine Way house has decided to sell it, so we will be moving again!
Stay tuned....

02/14/04 We got a new car!! It's a 2004 Ford Escape XLT: Here's a link to the website for the Escape. We needed a car with more cargo space so as to be able to haul all of our equipment we use for doing the music at church

07/14/03 As of July 14th, we have a new address
4186 Sugar Pine Way
Livermore, CA 94551
The owner of our previous rental decided to sell. We found this place and are very nearly settled in.

Katie is now teaching music at Katie's Music School

Hobbies and other activies

Some of the things I've been spending my copious spare time(!) involved in include:

Being the newsletter editor and Technology Director for Fr. Patrick Power Council #4588 of the Knights of Columbus,
which is a fraternal, charitable organization of Catholic Gentlemen,

being the Public Information Officer for the Livermore Amateur Radio Klub,

being a charter member of the Valley Brewing Club, an organization for amateur homebrewers.

Besides being the PIO for LARK, I've also become more active in ham radio, upgrading my license to Extra Class so that I can operate on HF including some of the many digital modes which allow me to marry two of my interests, computers and ham radio and include PSK-31, RTTY, SSTV, and others. I bought an Icom IC-725 multiband/multimode tranceiver on which I have made several HF contacts. I have acquired a Heathkit HW-101, which is a 180 W PEP 80 – 10 M SSB/CW transceiver. I've also acquired and assembled an interface kit to go from the sound card and serial port of a computer to the tranceiver so that I can run the digital modes. More on that in the future as I get everything working. I also just finished building an all copper J-Pole antenna for the 2M band which will make hitting some of the more remote repeaters a lot easier. I have been planning my "Antenna Farm" for the new house, which could probably be pretty comprehensive — the neighbors in our new neighborhood are all pretty nice and don't seem to have a problem with ham radio in general B-) and likely would not object to a small tower.

Photos

I've started scanning some old family photos so I can post them on this web site. The index for them is here
